Picture Books
This Crystal Kite Award-winning picture book [WINDOWS TO THE WORLD] features a sweet intergenerational story about a grandfather named Nonno and his grandson Alexander. Like many grandparents, Nonno wants to pass on his stamp collection to his younger generation, but Alexander isn’t sure he wants that responsibility. Fortunately, Nonno has mentioned the value of sharing, so Alexander convinces Nonno to share his collection at the Philatelic Museum, where they both become tour guides. This is a great example of a story where the child protagonist takes agency while also being empathic to an older person’s needs. Alice Bianchi-Clark’s text uses wonderfully descriptive verbs, while illustrator Chloe Chang evokes the variety that Nonno loves about stamp collecting.
Susan Johnston Taylor award-winning author of ANIMALS IN SURPRISING SHADES: POEMS ABOUT EARTH’S COLOURFUL CREATURES
As a kid, I competed with my older brother to collect and affix stamps in our stamp albums. So this book really spoke to me and I had to acquire a personal copy! [WINDOWS TO THE WORLD] is truly a window to the world - through stamps which help us learn about countries, prominent world figures, cultures, and so much more. My favorite line from the book - "Every stamp has a story to tell."
The story is about sharing your passion with others, finding community and purpose in life. I loved that the child protagonist persuades his grandfather, Nonno, to do something that he is originally reluctant to do (read the book to find out more!).
This is a great book to inspire the hobby of stamp collection among young readers, and learn a few new words, such as "philatelist".
The vibrant illustrations are charming and bound to engage young readers. The back matter also offers much to learn from - how to collect stamps, parts of a stamp, and so on.

[A SPOT OF KINDNESS] is such a sweet story about what it means to be kind to others. Tiger has spots, not stripes, and feels like he doesn't fit in. And bully Zebra makes sure he knows it! But Tiger is able to rise above and show kindness to all. The resolution is a sweet surprise. Great back matter as well.
Lisa Katzenberger award-winning author of IT WILL BE OK: A STORY OF EMPATHY, KINDNESS AND FRIENDSHIP and A LOVE LETTER TO MY LIBRARY
It’s tough to be a tiger with spots but no stripes. In spite of Zebra’s unkind behavior, Tiger finds ways to be kind to other animals. With each kindness, another spot appears! Bianchi-Clark’s beautiful writing and Hemani’s exquisite illustrations make this a magical book [A SPOT OF KINDNESS] about the power of kindness!
